This year is imortant locally as in July 1925, the railway station in Motspur Park opened. The station was a pre-condition of the developers before they would begin the extensive residential development in the area.
A lot has happened in the area in the last 100 years and we thought we should mark this centenary. The Friends are therefore planning a picnic in the park. Other organisations have also planned to mark the occasion and the following events are all happening on Saturday 12 July:
- There will be an unveiling of a commemorative plaque on the station site
- The Motspur Park library will host a series of historical talks and exhibitions, which will include a working model of the railway station
- Blossom House School is holding its annual Summer Fayre
- The Friends of the Sir Joseph Hood Memorial Playing Field are organising a picnic which will include:
- Music
- A choir
- A BBQ run by the Scouts
- Various stalls
- Tennis for free for U-12s by Free Tennis
- The paddling pool will be open
- Crazy Golf
- Hot & Cold drinks and snacks available from The Hut
Sarah McAlister is organising an enormous length of hand-made bunting which will run from the station to the level crossing.
